Data Protection at Optimus

Updated on November 21, 2018

Break-ins into customer databases and theft of sensitive customer data are daily fare nowadays — all daily news include headlines on such crimes. An unpleasant situation for both customers and vendors.

We would like to use this opportunity to talk about our point of view regarding "data protection" and to show you very clearly what we are doing as an operator to literally protect user data in the project Optimus.

We are not a fan of accounts. That is why you don't have to create an account in order to use our WordPress plugin (as opposed to plugins such as Akismet, Jetpack, Stream). That's why as a provider we don't have to worry about the strength of chosen passwords and thus about the security of accounts. In a nutshell: there is no database with data such as IP, mail or email addresses that can be traced back to a user. The database is limited to previously sold license numbers that are tied to an expiry date. That's it.

The handling of licenses is similarly simple. After a year, the license expires and is deleted. Extending the plugin functionality is only possible by purchasing a new Optimus HQ license.

Payment process

The payment process is conducted entirely through PayPal — the seller does not receive any type of data regarding the chosen method of payment (credit card information etc.)

Other measures for the protection of your data

  • Generated invoices that can be accessed online are taken offline after a couple of months.
  • Images transferred to the Optimus server are automatically deleted directly after the optimization process is completed.
  • The server is located in Germany.
  • Both the Optimus website as well as the plugin (Optimus HQ) transfer data over an SSL encrypted connection.
