KeyCDN Launches New POP in Poland

KeyCDN is always on the lookout for ways to minimize latency and accelerate asset delivery worldwide. That's why today we're excited to announce that we're further improving our presence in Europe with the launch of our new point of presence (POP) in Warsaw, Poland! The new POP is now in production and has been automatically added to all existing Zones.

POP in Warsaw extends content delivery to Poland

Extending content delivery to Poland has been on our radar for some time and we're happy to say that we're now present in the capital of Poland - Warsaw.

Poland was previously surrounded by three other KeyCDN POP locations. However, now that it has its own dedicated POP, visitors will see an even further reduction in latency, thus resulting in better load times.

As of 2017, Poland has a population of over 38.5 million people, covers an area of 312,679 square kilometers and is the sixth most popular member state of the European Union. As for Warsaw, it is the largest city in Poland with a population of over 1.7 million and over 2.6 million in the greater metropolitan area.

Growth of Internet in Poland

The Internet is well developed for the business community of Poland and has penetrated the consumer and household sectors. According to Internet Live Stats, as of 2016, close to 28 million people are Internet users in Poland, that's a 72.4% penetration rate. This rate has been steadily increasing year after year and with the government and business sector determined to remove bottlenecks and further the development of ecommerce, this percentage will certainly continue to increase.

Here are some additional statistics about the usage and growth of the Internet in Poland.

  • There are approximately 350 Internet Services Providers (ISPs) with this number increasing every month.
  • According to Ecommerce News, about 26% of Polish internet users want to spend more online. Poland's ecommerce market is also growing quite rapidly with 75% of the population having already tried online shopping at some point.
  • Poland's average internet speed is 12.6 Mbps placing it at the 41st spot globally.

How to check if content is delivered from Poland?

Each POP adds the HTTP response header X-Edge-Location to all assets delivered via KeyCDN. In this case, the Warsaw POP's identifier is plwa. The first two letters stand for the country TLD, while the 3rd and 4th letters are for the city. You can quickly check the response headers using Chrome DevTools, a speed test tool, or a simple curl command like the one below:

curl -I https://www.keycdn.com/img/example.jpg
